IRB Bulletin: News from the IRB Office (February 2023)

As a part of the Northwestern University IRB Office’s initiative to share timely resources and information with the research community, the IRB Bulletin is released at the beginning of each month and contains relevant updates from the IRB office.  The IRB Bulletin is also posted monthly on the IRB News & Announcements webpage. Please keep reading for this month’s updates.

Updated: GDPR Guidance and GDPR Compliance Consent

The IRB Office updated HRP-1917 and HRP-590. The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is a European law that went into effect on May 25, 2018 and establishes protections for the privacy and security of "personal data" from or about individuals in the European Economic Area (“EEA”) and certain non-EEA organizations that process personal data of individuals in the EEA. The updated guidance document assists investigators in determining whether this regulation may apply to their research project, and if the corresponding consent template should be utilized. The updated guidance form and consent form are now available on the Policies & Guidance and Consent Templates webpages, respectively.
